Acknowledgments:

For Maxis that gave us the opportunity to be in touch and communicate with our communities, and sponsoring the project fund, we could never say enough thank you. Few months back before we weren't exposed to this competition, we would never know that aside from being curb inside our campus and studying, studying, studying, there are outside people that we could give something to them, and exchange ideas with them. And ended it was fun after all.

We would like to thank Cik Rashidah, for being the person that brought us into this competition. Without her, we could never possibly able to get all this interesting and motivating experiences especially with our project management skills. Trust us, we learnt A LOT. Right from communicating with the formal organization until with a bunch of Standard 4 kids!
Cik Rashidah also has been giving her advices and helped us throughout this project, and without her, we could never have the right opinions.

We would also like to thank SK Seksyen 6 Headmistress, Puan Aishah for being so understanding and very helpful in this project. She was right there to hear us, and listen to what we had to say in order to make her school the aim for the project. She also eager to help us and giving us all the needs that we need in order to make this project a successful and beneficial to all.

Cikgu Ratna, the Kemahiran Hidup teacher, the MOST sporting and funniest teacher we've ever met. Cikgu Ratna was the most enthusiastic person on assisting us. She even communicated with us during odd hours, just to make sure we had everything that we need! She was the key person that is responsible on this project success. We could never know what to deal with all the details on the plants and soils if it wasn't because of her.

Our classmates! Oh HOW we could ever thank them. Even if we dedicated the whole blog to them, it would never enough to show our appreciation for all their help and assistants. Every sweat on the Taman Sains SK Seksyen 6 came from our classmates. Thanks guys, million, trillion, gazillion THANKS!

And last but not least, the kids. They are so cute we need to resist from squeezing their cheeks. They were so keen to take care for their plants and there was this time we went to see their plants progress, the kids water their plants every time they got the chance to do so! During morning when they arrived to school, during recess hour, and before going home! They are very much impatient on tracking their plant's growth through the GMS System.

Not forgetting all the unmentioned parties that indirectly made this project into success.

Feedback from the community:

From adik Nur Fahatin Najwa.

From adik Nurul Aina

From adik Melvinder

It's almost the end of this competition, even though we do feel some relief on the completion of this project, but it is VERY undoubtedly that we are quite reluctant to end all of this.

The hectic schedule on managing every single details of the project, the tiring trips, bundled together with our studies and exam timetable, and squeezing every possible minute to keep in touch with Cikgu Ratna from SK Seksyen 6 etc etc. We admit that it was a tiring activities, but when we saw the children faces during the seeds planting and how they took care of the trees until they grew SO big and at the same time exposed to ICT, we felt that it was all worth it.

And what we can assure that, this spirit would NOT only lasts until 6th November.

Sincerely,
(from left to right:)

Project Report - Sunday 28 Oct

Hi!

OMG OMG OMG it's been sooooo long since we've updated this blog. Yeah, blame the festive season and open houses and final exam

Anyhoos, it's been exactly one month since we planted the vegetables and we are soooo eager to see them grow bigger and bigger everyday!

See the Petola!!!!! So BIG!

Bendi!

Kacang Botor

Peria

Kacang Buncis

Kacang Pokok Renek

And also, this is how our GMS System looks like. For security reasons, we couldn't publish the address here. However, we would print screen every features in the website for you!

The main page. We're currently updating as much as possible to fill in the white blanks

The student profile. I created an account myself for print screen purpose.

Students also able to update their profiles.

After registering, they could key in their tree name and details.

Example here, I've planted a Peria, so I entered my tree growth week by week in centimeters.

And then tadaaa. The statistic about my Peria will be generated!

The kids are starting to enter their tree details already! Sadly, didn't manage to bring camera, so will update the pictures soon!

xoxo,

Project Report - Thurs 4 Oct

OK, we all have seen pictures of the Phase 1 event, so what really happened backstage?
For Phase 2, basically the main objective would be enabling the student's to key-in their data into our developed website.

Din and Ijoey

Mie and Zahir.

Those are the anchor people in developing the website for the student to key-in their plant's growth data. We even have a name for the webbie! We called it GMS System. It is currently hosted, but due to security reasons, I couldn't put the link here, so yeah. Would do some screen shots though, so stay tuned!

P/S: Please don't get confused with Phase 1 or 2. It's our project phases, not the Maxis CyberlinQ phases yah!

The launch is PHASE 1 whereby students plant their vegetables and record the initial height. The reasons behind was there were some seeds that have not grown yet, and the students are having their final exam next week. We are also delighted to hear that Phase 2 deadline will be extended to 6th Nov 2007, thus giving us more time to take it slow mow.

Project Report - Monday 24 Sept

Last Friday, we started to grow the seeds on our own first before passing them to SK Seksyen 6 students on this 27 Sept. It is because we wanted those kids to take an initial growth of the plant, and key-in the data into our interactive website. If we were to give them the ingrown seed, no syok lah, nothing to measure and keyed-in into the website mah.

Talking about the website, we are in the midst of fine-tuning phase and most probably it would be ready tomorrow. Will keep you guys updated, kay!

So, remember that we went to MARDI to get those seeds? Well, we also managed to get this AMAZING little thing, called GP7. This GP7 as we were told by MARDI is new imported technology, and IT IS NOT AVAILABLE IN MALAYSIA YET! (other than MARDI la).

So what is this GP7 thingy? At a first glance, it looks like a round OREO cookies. But, after it has been soaked for 30 minutes, it turned out like this:

Tadaaa!

It's a mixture of hampas kayu and fertilizer, kept in a cylinder shape kinda net. So, what we did was, Put 1-2 seeds inside the soaked GP7, and water it everyday! That's it!

Right after the seeds have been planted.

After 3 days, look what we have:

EXCITED LEH!!!! Those cute little baby plants!

More!

More!!!

Papa pokok sayur. Thanks Kaykay for letting us use your porch to put these baskets

P/S: I'm strongly believe that Kaykay and his housemates are becoming more and more attached to those babies, thus I'd like to warn you that we might have some obstacles in retrieving back the babies. So guys, ready to use full force if needed.

New feature has been added

Our new SHOUTBOX has been added! Please guys, shout all of your ideas/comments/critiques/whateveritis !! Would love to hear from you guys!

On the other hand, Maxis CyberlinQ Committee has also added new VOTING feature in their website here. Feel free to vote! (Our page OK, our page! )

Project Report - Thurs 20 Sept

As we had planned with Cikgu Ratna, the project would be using vegetables instead of small trees to be planted. On last Thursday, 20 Sept, we went to MARDI to buy the vegetables seeds.

This is Azim. (on the left). He's not from our team, but we would like to thank him for showing us the way to MARDI. If it wasn't because of him, we would already ended up in some other state in Malaysia.

En Khairul from MARDI, person who is so kind attended us.

The seeds. Kacang botol, lady's finger, petola, kacang pokok renek, kacang buncis and peria.

Can't wait to plant those seeds!!!

XOXO

Project Report - Sunday 16 Sept

So, as planned, last Sunday,(Sunday OK, Sunday!) 16 Sept 8.30am we continued our work with the vegetables bed. The beds needed some cement around them. We were so lucky that Cikgu Ratna and her husband came to help us with the work, and what was more luckier, Cikgu Ratna even sponsored the cement and sand for our project! Thanks Cikgu!

Cikgu Ratna and husband.

We also had Cik Rashidah, our advisor for this project, came and helped us.

Cik Rashidah (standing in white) with Cikgu Ratna (in blue tudung)

Peewitt

Despite fasting month and Sunday morning, we had huge help from our class in finishing the vegetables beds.

Construction workers Lat and Zahir arranging the bricks.

Notice that blue sleeve hands with a brick? HAHA. Cute!

Adiel: "Heee, penat tau cangkul tanah! Menci dorang suruh aku buat ni!"

Tutti and Hasma. Tutti was soooooo MACHO because she carried 6 bricks with her own bare hands!! TUTTI, YOU'RE THE MAN!!

Cikgu Ratna's husband trying to explain how to mix the cement with the hope that Asyrul and Suhaimi got it right. Hope left only hope.

Cik Rashidah: "Since you guys learn how to mix cements and bricks today, why not you help the faculty with some of our chipped stairs? "
Us #1: "Err..umm..aa.. oh hey, look what I found, a worm!"
Us #2: "Oh what a cute worm!"
Us #3: "Yeah, it's so cute!!"

We know it's fasting month guys, but what's with that face?! Pahala OK, pahala!

Project Manager said her picture is too pretty, so cannot simply post on Internet

Around 1pm, it was raining cats and dogs, luckily we managed to finish 95% of the beds.

OUR VEGETABLES BEDS ARE READY!

The work went until 1.30pm, and boy, it was tiring!! But nevertheless, we enjoyed it even though it was Sunday and we were fasting. Thank you so much guys for the help! Buka puasa would be on us! PROMISE! Muaks muaks!

Project Kick-Off

Whee, we've been selected in Top 50 for Phase 2!

So yesterday (10 Sept) we managed to get Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Seksyen 6, Shah Alam to become the selected school for this project, thanks to Puan Aishah the ever so understanding Headmistress! And we have chosen 2 classes (around 76 pupils) from Standard 4.

SK Seksyen 6 has this lovely Taman Sains which we intended to make it the place for the kids to plant their trees there. We also have discussed with Cikgu Ratna, the teacher that would be supervising us and the 2 chosen classes. Basically we discussed on the place, target students and type of plants that would be planted. We agreed on Cikgu Ratna on planting vegetables like lady's finger, bak choy, kangkung, chillies etc because it's in their syllabus to grow vegetables and also not to mention vegetables has short term cycle so these kids could harvest their veges by the end of school term later on.

Today, around 8.30am (oh yes, we woke up early ok ) we started on preparing the vegetable bed or we call it "batas" in Malay. Originally the school has only 4 "batas", but we created another 4, so it became 8 "batas".

The Taman Sains - before

6 Berlian are admiring the tough Firzan with the hoe!!

We were so lucky to have Standard 6 students (6 Berlian) to help us in plucking off the grass on the vegetables bed, thanks darlings! In case you were wondering why these students are not in their uniforms, they actually had this Bulan Kemerdekaan whereby they had to wear national clothes for the whole day.

Cikgu Ratna (pointing) guiding us on how to make the vegetables bed.
"Now, if you didn't finish this, you can't go home, OK?!"
"Yes, cikgu.." (joking, joking!)

The little darlings helping us

Ai, project manager pakai jeans cangkul tanah?

Yay! Our vegetable beds are ready!

But the planting of the veges will be held on 27th Sept which is also the LAUNCH DAY for this program. The preparation of vegetable beds need to be done around 2 weeks before planting the vegetables, so this Sunday we need to come again, and there would be some more work in finishing the beds.

Lalalala

Some of us. Thanks a million guys! Couldn't do without you!

Oi, why so happy?! Still got long way to finish this project OK!!

See you guys this Sunday morning!

Project Title- "Green My School Through ICT"

Project Synopsis:

Our project is a campaign named “Green My School through ICT“. This community project is to create awareness to youngsters especially primary school students by planting trees that we will provide in their school grounds and input the data of the growth of their trees in our interactive website that will store and manipulate the data by creating statistics of their trees and many more tips for them to learn on how to take care of their tress.

By doing this, the students can learn about having some sense of preserving the nature in the early age and indirectly in touch with ICT as well. Value of responsibilities is also being exposed to them because they will take care of their own trees and track their trees growth.

Project Objectives:

  • To increase awareness among primary school students on the importance of preserving the nature.
  • To provide meaningful connection between primary school students and environment.
  • To invoke primary school students' intelligence in ICT.

Project Structure:

  • Set up a campaign booth at the identified primary school in Shah Alam as our opening act in our campaign.
  • Afterwards, we will provide 60 trees and fertilizers to 60 primary school students and they will learn how to plant the trees in their school ground and take care of these trees with the guidance of their teachers.
  • To record the growth of their trees, students can browse through the interactive website that we will develop and they can key in the data of their trees growth and the website will display their trees statistics and tips on the care of their trees.

Project Expected Outcome:

  • It would build public awareness and involvement in protecting environment starting from their own school.
  • It also gives children the opportunity to belong to a group that solves real life problems.
  • Student-teacher relationship outside classroom will be closer because teachers will also assist students in this program.
  • This project also offer many teaching and learning opportunities in ICT, English, science, mathematics, history, geography, social studies and art. It can offer children to learn about plants and the relationship between the seasons and weather, the sun and the earth (geology/environment).The process of planning, creating and using an environment provides children with unique hands-on experiences.
  • By taking care of their own trees, students will develop a sense of responsibility and stewardship.
  • Last but not least, we could take part in helping to reduce the global warming that is happening currently and as to Mother Nature, we could never have too many trees, aren’t we?
